November 2010 Newsletter

Greetings I'm Jorden Leonard, Executive Director of the Portland Green Party.

We had our second chapter meeting at the SE Lucky Lab with just 8 people in attendance, a low turnout. Check our minutes here for details. In short we chatted about bylaws again (the proposed changes to the constitution/bylaws can be found here(will link when available, check back)), and talked about the upcoming election with candidates.  Look at this month's proposed agenda and come to our new meeting location at our new office space.  So same time 7 to 9pm, but new location.   333 SE 2nd St on the second floor.  It is a secure building but there will be someone at the door to let people in for a bit and then after there is a phone outside to call up.  It will be Wednesday the 24th the day before Thanksgiving, so thank you in advance to anyone taking some holiday time to come and be a part of the meeting.

The co-management team is working out the process for developing a strategic plan for the Portland Green party, we hope to have something ready to present to the membership at the meeting that will look forward all the way into early 2013.

We are taking some time to develop our social media presence.  Join our new facebook group here, comment, and share with your friends.  We hope that by the time of the member meeting this month the website will be updated with a community section wherein people can use their Facebook login to get access (Or you can just create an account on

Given how bylaws discussion has dominated the last two chapter meetings.  From this month's meeting forward the proposed agenda will only have bylaw related items in the last half hour of discussion time during the meeting.  The group can always reach a consensus to change this at the meeting.

Voter Owned Elections lost by a mere thousand votes.  A devastating loss for our city and us.  Still we are moving forward and have some very fun and exciting possible fund-raising projects on the horizon such as a concert series, silent auctions, Green themed house parties, a big Earth Day event, etc etc.  Please anyone with any interest let me know.  We'll need all the help we can get, and I believe it is something that you will enjoy.

There is still a ton of development that needs to be done.  As part of the strategic planning process we are doing a Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threat (SWOT) Analysis.  Anyone who is interested in helping out with development, let me know and I will give you access to what co-management has so far so we can expedite things.

Thank you all for your continued interest and support.  Only as a community can we move forward with lasting positive change, and I'm proud to be a part of your community.
